Online streaming has been the most popular industry today, and there has been a flood of online streaming platforms lately. Amazon and MGM $8.45 Billion Deal

Amazon is a conglomerate and has its branches in almost every field. The company already owns a streaming platform with the name Amazon Prime and buying MGM would be its way to Hollywood, such that to bring even more exciting projects to its platform or maybe to try its hands in Hollywood movies production. Amazon has agreed to pay a sum of $8.45 billion so to acquire the movie studio, and the deal will be the second-largest acquisition by Amazon after the $14 billion worth deal of buying Whole Foods.

The deal will provide Amazon with the rights of 4000 movies, including the James Bond and over 17000 TV series produced by MGM, which will then be streaming on Amazon Prime for free for the people with Prime membership enhancing the Prime library. The deal will also get the company access to MGM’s cable channel named Epix.

“The real financial value behind this deal is the treasure trove of IP in the deep catalog that we plan to reimagine and develop together with MGM’s talented team. It’s very exciting and provides so many opportunities for high-quality storytelling,” said Mike Hopkins, senior vice president of Prime Video and Amazon Studios.

There are already about 200 million subscribers to Amazon Prime who are freely accessing the content on Amazon’s streaming platform along with other perks like getting free shipping on their orders. However, the streaming platform could not offer very exciting content to its subscribers in recent days. The addition of more content to the platform from MGM will surely help the company raise its client base.

But still, some limitations will come along with the deal, as there are many incomplete contracts between MGM and other streaming companies that Amazon needs to wait to complete to stream the shows under the contract, for instance, shows like The Voice.

The pandemic has closed down all the theatres, and the online streaming platforms are the only way to entertainment for people, raising a tough competition between the big streaming platforms. Recently, AT&T and Discovery announced a similar deal worth $43-billion between them, merging their entertainment business that may also include HGTV, CNN, Food Network, and HBO as partners.

Though the company is trying its best to compete with its rivals, in recent times, these rivals have been criticizing the business practices of Amazon. Amazon started as a bookselling company, but today it has built a $1.6 trillion empire through its expansion strategies, spreading its wings into e-Commerce, cloud computing, online video streaming, etc.

Microsoft revealed a bunch of new updates during the virtual Microsoft Build 2021. These new updates are going to help developers bring real-time, multi-user collaboration for their app offering features like whiteboarding, design, etc. Microsoft has added this series of new updates such that developers can increase user engagement and harness the power of the Teams platform.

The new class of apps has exclusively originated as the solution to the crisis developers faced during the 2020 lockdown. The working scenario changed dramatically as everyone started working remotely and hence a strong purpose of the collaboration was the need of the hour. Microsoft Teams was built for this very reason so that it can enable collaboration creating opportunities for developers to build the next generation of applications.

A Hybrid Workplace

With collaboration being the top priority, Microsoft has added some new features that will help the developers to navigate a new hybrid workplace. The availability of the share stage integration is a new feature that is available in preview. With this new feature, the developers can now build apps and enable a real-time, multi-user collaboration experience. This can be done by extending the main stage of a Teams meeting as the user will get an option to add an app and share it with other attendees. Using this, the developers will experience real-time collaboration which will involve whiteboarding, project boards, design, etc.

Developers are also getting a series of new media APIs with resource-specific consent. This will enable real-time audio and video streaming for the developers at the Teams meetings. These new APIs will have added features like transcription, translation, note-taking, insights gathering through their apps, etc.

Microsoft is also adding an extension of the Together Mode coming this summer. This will allow developers to create their own customized meeting scenes for any Teams meeting which they can also share with others. There will be a Scene Designer Tool in the Developer Portal which the developer can use to create custom scenes thus increasing user engagement and making the meetings more fun.

Another feature Microsoft Teams is adding is the availability of the fluid components in private preview. It will allow the developer to send a table or a list as a message. Actions in these items can be taken by everyone in the meeting if they are co-authored by the developer. This reduced redundancy as communication through long chat threads can be minimized as all the changes can be made in the table itself.

Microsoft Teams is also enabling automation of meeting related-workflows such as starting and ending of a meeting. The Developer Portal in the Microsoft Teams has been built exclusively for the developers so that they receive a standalone app management console that can be accessed through the web or the Teams. In this portal, the developers can register their apps and configure them within a single or central location. Since Microsoft is adding plenty of new features for the developers, the app might become strong competition for Slack, Zoom, and others.

Other Updates

Apart from the updates in Microsoft Build 2021, the company has also announced support for message extensions in Outlook. This will create a sync between Teams and Outlook as this will allow users to integrate tasks in Teams while emailing someone from Outlook. Additionally, the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) is also receiving support for Linux graphical user interface (GUI) apps. With this support, any Linux GUI apps can fully run on Windows without setting up a traditional virtual machine.

Upgrades are also made in the Windows search bar to support personalized results from tools such as Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics 365. The Windows Terminal 1.9 preview will be also available as announced by Microsoft which also comes with a Quake Mode. The advantage of this mode is users can open a new terminal window in Windows by using a keyboard shortcut from anywhere. In Microsoft Build 2021, an update was also announced for Visual Studio 2019 and support for creating GitHub Actions Workflows directly from the IDE (Gadgets 360).

So, last Friday, the valuation of Bitcoin fell more than 11% after doubling the monitoring efforts. For most of the London and Asian session, the value of Bitcoin was $40,000 which dropped to $35,928.

Imposing Strict Speculation on Cryptocurrency

The Chinese Government and other officials of the country are now determined to rule out any possible loophole that will increase the chances of fraud in Cryptocurrency. Before the Chinese officials made any public statement, three Chinese industries already imposed a ban on banks and payment companies which carried out crypto-related services. This escalated the situation and finally Liu He released the order of crackdown on Bitcoin publicly. It is for the first time that crypto mining is targeted by the government.

So, it might be difficult to understand the course of action or the real impact of the situation that will take place in the following days. He further added that the statement by Liu He makes it clear that Bitcoin mining is very risky in China as it relies on the will of the government.

The New Rules

With China imposing double measures on digital currencies, there are new rules proposed by the Chinese government. According to the government proposal, every cryptocurrency exchange that is operating in Hong Kong is bound to be licensed by the city’s market regulators. From now onwards, they can only provide services to professional investors. In response to this new announcement by the Chinese government, Ruud Feltkamp, chief executive officer at crypto trading bot Cryptohopper, said that, China is trying to tackle Bitcoin, its mining and trading since 2013 so again doubling down efforts to stop fraud in digital currencies is not a surprise anymore. But, he further said it will be a surprise if this has substantial long-term effect on Bitcoin.

Last Friday, China’s state broadcaster CCTV warned its audience against the systemic risks of cryptocurrency trading during a commentary on its website. The exact words that CCTV said were, “Bitcoin is no longer an investment tool to avoid risks. Rather, it’s a speculative instrument.” It further mentioned that cryptocurrency is a very lightly regulated asset which makes it a good option for trading in the black market, money laundering, drug dealing, and every other kind of illegal business. While the Chinese government is trying to enforce strict rules on Bitcoin, the rival cryptocurrency Ether is also losing its valuation.
