2CHECKOUT IS HELPING BUSINESSES GROW AND INCREASE THEIR REVENUE SINCE 2006

After the internet became affordable, many software companies came up. But, with the increase in competition, every company needed some help to stay in the game. Companies with very little idea of how to drive traffic towards their website or about digital marketing faced many problems. Because, with the digital revolution, everything became more meaningful and prominent on the screen. A company to help other software companies grow their businesses was very important. Someone who can guide them and help them expand in the international market. Some members of GECAD Group decided to build a company to sell products that can help the other companies expand. In 2006, Alan Homewood founded 2Checkout in Ohio. The company has grown vastly over the years.

About Alan Homewood

Alan went to the Ohio State University Fisher College of Business. He graduated in 1994. While he was pursuing his degree, he worked at LCI International for five years. In 1995, Alan started working as Oracle and other DB Consultants. He started working on the project of 2Checkout since 2000 and finally released it in 2006.

In 2013, Alan became the President of Entrepreneurs’ Organization who now serves as the Area Director of the same. Apart from being the Chairman of 2Checkout, he is currently the CEO of Yogi Surprise and Founding Board Member of Autism Living.

The founding story of 2Checkout

Before founding 2Checkout, Alan and other co-founders worked for a company called GECAD Group. The company built RAV Antivirus which came under the acquisition of Microsoft in 2003. GECAD Group was an international company that sold software products on a global level. But, the founders realized that it is very hard for a company to sell its products internationally on its own. This gave them the idea to establish a company that would help other software companies like GECAD to grow.

So, they started the company, Avangate in 2006. In 2013, Francisco Partners acquired Avangate which in turn acquired 2Checkout in 2017. 2Checkout has become an integral part of the company as it helps in a flexible payment system and broadens the market research. After the acquisition, the entire company was reintroduced under the brand name of 2Checkout. Through this platform, the company helps the clients grow in any market of any model.

The idea behind 2Checkout

Avangate which is now known as 2Checkout serves a good purpose for online businesses. When the founders were working to sell their products in GECAD, they faced many problems. But, they also noticed that there is a vast opportunity to sell their products outside their nation. Keeping this in mind, they created Avangate as a way to help communicate the merchant with the world.

What the company faces on a daily basis?

Currently, 2Checkout is the only digital platform that gives its customers the opportunity to outsource the entire business process. They are free to pick up the services they want and change it with the course of time. The company, today, serves more than 17,000 merchants meeting everyone’s needs. 2Checkout serves both small companies to large business tycoons as well. The company has expanded its service to more than 180 countries and territories.

Achievements

The first biggest achievement of the company was in 2007 when it opened the first North American Sales office. 2Checkout reached out to the Russian market in 2008. In 2011, 2Checkout received funding from 3TS Cisco Growth Fund. After Francisco Partners acquired Avangate in 2013, the company received the CODIE’s Best eCommerce and Billing Solution Award.

In 2014, the company received many awards which include Deloitte Tech Fast500, The Golden Bridge, European Business Award, etc. Next year, the company opened another office in Atlanta thus expanding its reach. Recently, the company has launched the 2Checkout 2.0 Digital Commerce Platform.

Future goals

The new CEO of 2Checkout, Alex Hart has big plans for the company in the near future. Currently, the most challenging part of the business is thinking about what to pursue next. 2Checkout has a lot of innovative ideas for the future. But, it is tough to decide what ideas they are going to implement now and what can wait for the future. This is the reason, Alex thinks it is better to listen to its customers. Because, if the customers aren’t ready to adopt a change, then there is no point in making a change at all.

In 2008, they set up Dwolla and made the money moving faster, simpler, and affordable than before.

Former CEO and co-founder: Ben Milne

He is the originator and CEO of the company. Under his policies, Dwolla raised a huge investment of approximately 22 million dollars for further exploration of the company. Coming to his education, he attended the University of North Dakota for studying computer science. Today the idea of Shane and his co-founder fellow Ben enabled the money transfer with very low transaction costs, faster service, and a feasible approach.

Brady Harris- Present CEO

He has 20+ years of experience in leadership in the e-commerce sector. Earlier, Harris served at Payscape as a president.

The Backstory of Foundation

In 2008, it is set up and earlier the firm provided local services especially in Lowa. That time, only two employees handled all work of the firm. The actual start of Dwolla is considered in 2010 when it was launched in the US. Earlier, services provided to a few small banks, shops, and retailers. After one year, the firm acquired 20000 users and also, the number of employees increased to 15. Only in the first week afterward, it successfully processed 1 million dollars.

Significance of Dwolla as an E-commerce platform

It is an e-commerce firm that provides services related to online and mobile payments. Its White label service is constituted of APIs and these are expanded to include instant bank authorizations. In 2011, Dwolla improved its service with Fisync integration and enabled instantaneous transactions which it discontinued in 2017. Also, it has eleven financial firms signed on that provide access to many potential customers (600000 approx).

Lowa based Government authorities use the Dwolla platform as payment methods. In fact, Dwolla is added to the systems of the US Treasury Department’s Bureau of Fiscal for dealing with all kinds of electronics payments.

Controversy

Four years back, in 2016, Dwolla had been accused of inadequate security practices. CFPB charged Dwolla for data security-related issues. As per CFPB, Dwolla didn’t maintain adequate data security practices as mention on the company’s website.

Bottom Line

Despite all odds, Dwolla assisted many small to large businesses to achieve their goals. Also, the firm is known for its unique work method. As a matter of fact, you will never find the Dwolla team in one place. They believed in decentralization, and for that prefer building remote offices at various locations.

As per the idea of founders, the firm is successfully enabled the money transfer with lower transaction costs as compared to Credit card and other payment methods. However, it aims to make the platform more feasible for all kinds of a user in the coming years.

Both corporate and financial headquarters of the firm are stated in Amsterdam and London respectively.

What leads to the merging of two leading firms?

Though these two firms merged in 2014, it has a long story behind the integration. It started in 2009, it was a tough time for Chrysler. Because the firm was going through bankruptcy reorganization. That time, Fiat owned 20% stakes of Chrysler which later on grew more than 50% in 2012. In 2014, Fiat purchased the remaining stakes and own the firm with 100% stakes. However, the firm was previously known as a SPA Fiat that became FCA on August 1, 2014.

Italian Based Brands- Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Abarth, Lancia, Fiat Professional, and VM Motori.

The crown brand of the company, Maserati has prepared to compete with other Ultra Luxury brands around the world. However, Ram Trucks remained the same.

 FCA’s Achievements

It is known as a unique automobile firm that earlier also manufactured other vehicles rather than its famous luxurious cars. For example, military vehicles, railway engines, as well as aircraft. Apart from that, the firm also had a Ski Resort in the Alps Mountain. Presently, it is the eighth largest automaker on the planet. Also, several brands under the FCA manufactured dominating sports cars.

Moreover, it is also active in the field of advertising and print media. In fact, the firm was a stakeholder in the creation of the largest media group of Italy known as GEDI Gruppo Editoriale. Additionally, it owns industrial subsidiaries Teksid and Comau.

Bottom Line

Last year FCA made several announcements to explore its business further. It includes investment in Michigan for increasing manufacturing units that will create 6000+ jobs. Also, the firm invested in Detroit for its Jeep Manufacturing unit in 2019. Recently, it signed a combination agreement with PSA in 2019. Currently, several leading brands in the automobile industry came under its portfolio such as Alfa Romeo, Dodge, Jeep, Maserati, Fiat, and the list includes many dominating brands. Presently, it is one of the automakers on the planet that are dominating this sector. In March 2020, the firm took the big step to fight against coronavirus outbreaks by shutting down its manufacturing units on a basis of rotation. Shutting down major manufacturing units is considered a great step amid the corona pandemic.

Daimler Ag

Daimler Ag – Another Top Notch Company In The Automotive Industry

Many big companies in the automotive industry have a very rich history. Some of the companies are carrying out their legacy passing on to the next generation. And in other cases, major investors acquire the company’s stake by breaking it into fragments. This is due to the heavy loss or many other internal reasons. Daimler is a world-renowned company for commercial vehicles and automobiles. It has its history date back to the late 1890s.

The company’s name Daimler AG has seen other forms in the past 120 years of its reign. But, it started originally with the name, The Daimler Motor Company Limited. Henry John Lawson, mostly known as Harry Lawson formed this company in 1896. Since then Daimler has faced different phases of leadership and expansion. Currently, its headquarters is situated in Stuttgart, Germany.

About Harry Lawson Founder of Daimler Ag

Born to Thomas Lawson and Anne Lucy Kent on 23rd February 1852, Harry showed great interest in designing bicycles. He was born and raised in the City of London. In 1873, the entire family moved to Brighton. This is when Harry started designing various types of bicycles. Today, he is popular as one of the first inventors of modern bicycles.

From designing bicycles, Harry showed interest in opening a motor car company. He saw a very vast opportunity in this industry, especially in Britain. Harry moved to Coventry in the 1880s and along with Frederick Simms founded the Motor Car Club of Britain in 1895. This was when the British government was carrying out the Locomotive Acts.

So, on 14th November 1896, Harry arranged the first London to Brighton Car run to celebrate the elimination of the Red Flag Act. This gave Britain the right to develop its motor industry. In Harry’s attempts to monopolize the British automobile industry, he bought many foreign patents and founded a series of companies. Some of the companies include The British Motor Syndicate, British Motor Traction Company, Motor Manufacturing Company, The Daimler Motor Company Limited, etc.

But, out of all these companies, only Daimler hit a huge success. And, the reason behind this was Gottlieb Daimler. Later, he suffered a lot of legal acquisitions regarding patent rights. He died on 12th July 1925.

Early History

On 1st May 1924, the companies, Benz & Cie and Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (DMG) signed a mutual agreement and continued their respective production. But, on 28th June 1926, both the companies merged and the company became Daimler-Benz AG. And, the company declared that Mercedes-Benz is going to be the brand name.

The word Mercedes came from the company’s most successful series, the Mercedes. After DMG passed away in 1900, companies like Daimler Motor Company and Austro-Daimler used the brand name, Daimler. So, Daimler-Benz used the name Mercedes for business.

Many companies formed before World War II is mostly known for producing military vehicles as well. Daimler-Benz was no exception and thus created engines for German aircraft, submarines, and tanks. During the war, the company used 60,000 prisoners from concentration camps for production. The early phase of Daimler-Benz came to an end with the acquisition of MTU Friedrichshafen in 1995.

The Second Merger

In 1998, Daimler-Benz AG and Chrysler Corporation merged to form DaimlerChrysler AG. In the 1990s, the merger valued $38 billion and it was one of the largest deals cross-border deals. But, the merger brought a lot of lawsuits in the house. Some were settled and rest was dismissed. But, this affected the company’s share price. Questions were raised if the two companies integrated successfully or not.

So, in 2002 DaimlerChrysler introduced products that used elements from both sides of the merged company. After a few years, the company decided to sell the Chrysler unit to Cerberus Capital Management. The company announced that it faced a $1.5 billion loss in 2006. And, confirmed the Chrysler unit acquisition in August 2007. Cerberus acquired an 80.1% stake of Chrysler Holding LLC and the rest was still under Daimler AG. But, Chrysler was still in a very bad condition and declared bankruptcy in 2009.

Present Day

In 2015, Daimler AG bought Nokia’s Here digital maps division along with BMW and Volkswagen Group. Daimler started making smart investments and acquired many car start-ups. It wants to expand from just being a production unit of automobiles. In 2017, the company came into a joint partnership with Via, a ride-sharing app. The company also showed an interest in automotive cars and electric vehicles.

juniper networks

Juniper Network’s Founder Says India Is Its Largest Development Site

India has always excelled when it comes down to the engineering sector. Technical engineers especially those working in the IT sector have mostly emerged from India. The telecommunication industry has developed in the past few decades rapidly. From selling networking products to software, many companies have made a future in this sector. American immigrant, Pradeep Sindhu is the founder of one such company excelling on the grounds of networking. The name of the company is Juniper Networks and Pradeep founded the company in February 1996. A twenty-four years old company founded by an ex-IITian has become a billion-dollar enterprise.

The company is currently based in Sunnyvale, California, United States. Juniper is a world-famous company in the sector of networking hardware. The main products of the company are routers, network management software and providing network security as well.

About the Founder

Pradeep Sindhu is an American businessman who was born in India. Apart from founding Juniper, he has also founded Fungible, a company based on data center technology.

Born into an Indian family, Pradeep pursued his undergraduate degree from India. He acquired his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur. Pradeep fled to Hawaii in 1976 and completed his master’s in the same from the University of Hawaii. Later, he completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University.

Pradeep gained a very rich knowledge of telecommunication engineering and computer science before founding his companies. His professional world started growing from Xerox PARC where he worked for eleven years. He worked for designing many integrated circuits and multiprocessors. Pradeep is also well-known for making major contributions to designing high-tech microprocessors of Sun Microsystems.

After his years of studies and working in computer labs he decided to found his own company, Juniper Networks. So, in 1996, along with Dennis Ferguson and Bjorn Liencres, he established the company in California.

Early Story

Pradeep got the idea of founding his company while he was on a vacation in 1995. He wanted to switch the conventional circuit switching to packet switching. Pradeep, after his years of experience, thought that it would be better for transferring data. This is because after one fixed data packet is transmitted through a channel it will then be fully available for another one. Well, he might have got the idea from energy packets in quantum physics.

Success and Growth

Pradeep started the company with a seed funding of $2million. But, within the first year of its operation, the company raised another $12 million. In 1997, the company received $8 million in venture funding. This year the company received an additional $40 million in a funding round which witnessed the presence of companies like Nortel, 3Com, etc. Other investors of Juniper include Qwest and AT&T.

Within four years, the company’s annual revenue summed up to $3.8 million. M40 router was the only product of the company and only one product was sold to more than fifty telecommunication companies. The company also came into a joint partnership with Alcatel and Ericsson to expand itself in foreign markets.

The company gradually expanded in Asian countries like Japan, India, etc. This helped Juniper increase its market share from 6% in 1998 to more than 20% in 2000. Juniper filed its first IPO in April 1999 and by July 1999 its valuation became $7 billion. The growth of the company was jaw-dropping and it became the “latest darling of the Wall Street”.

The company’s sell decreased during the time of dot-com bust but again after 2004, it was back on track. In 2005, the company’s annual revenue surpassed $2 billion.

The Indian Market

Juniper has its development sites in Boston, Silicon Valley, Canada, and India. Among all these centers, Pradeep says the best R&D is carried out in India. India is a very crucial market for Juniper Networks but the most important scope for development as well. According to Pradeep Sindhu, the development site was founded in India to solve the level of complexity that cannot be done in the U.S.

When a company is handling a networking issue, it has different layers of complexity. And, the engineers in India can solve every layer from scratch. Pradeep also said that he loves hiring fresh talents from the Indian schools who are brimming with talent and enthusiasm. In 2018, the total employees of Juniper were 9,000 among which 2,600 belonged to Indian offices.

He is truly proud of the Indian market from both the aspect of market growth and solving critical missions. Pradeep wants to keep investing in the Indian market for the betterment of the company.
