Why does Microsoft limit Bing chats to just five questions per session?

Microsoft will set a cap of five queries per session and 50 inquiries per day for chat conversation on its new Bing search engine, which is driven by creative artificial intelligence (AI).

According to a blog post by Microsoft, “very long chat sessions can confuse the underlying chat model in the new Bing. To address these issues, we’ve implemented some changes to help focus the chat sessions.”

Bing noted, “Our data has shown that the vast majority of people find the answers they’re looking for within 5 turns and that only around 1 percent of chat conversations have 50+ messages.” In order to prevent lengthy back-and-forth chat sessions, Bing will encourage users to start a new session if they exceed the five sessions limit.

The New York Times published a two-hour-plus talk with Bing after reports of its “unhinged” conversations surfaced earlier this week. In the conversation, the chatbot expressed its affection for the author and said they were unable to sleep that night for some reason.

Microsoft made its decision days after certain media stories suggested that the latest Bing search engine’s results might be harmful and that the tech might not be suitable for widespread use.

When a Reuters reporter questioned the new, AI-enhanced version of Bing about the cost of car air filters, Bing returned adverts for filters supplied by the auto parts site Parts Geek, not just answers to the question.

Microsoft may make money from the revamped Bing, which has millions of individuals on the waiting list for access. How long these restrictions will persist is not immediately evident since Microsoft is currently attempting to enhance Bing’s tone.

According to Microsoft, “as we continue to get feedback, we will explore expanding the caps on chat sessions,” this cap appears to be temporary for the time being. The chat feature on Bing keeps becoming better every day, with technical problems being fixed and bigger weekly dumps of updates to enhance search and responses.

Microsoft pointed out earlier this week that it did not “fully envision” users of its chat interface utilizing it for “social entertainment” or as a tool for “general discovery of the world.”

The brand-new Bing is a ground-breaking product that makes use of cutting-edge AI technology to provide better searches, more thorough answers, a new chat interface, and the capability to generate and share content with others. The new Edge browser, which provides users with many features and advantages, is also merged with the new Bing.

The new Bing may, however, experience certain problems and inaccuracies at launch, such as producing erroneous information about goods, locations, and financial documents, similar to any new product.

Steam Deck

Is it possible to transfer games between PCs and Steam Deck?

Players can now use Steam Deck to wirelessly transfer games from their Desktops to their mobile Valve gaming consoles.

Because of this, consumers can effectively use less internet by not having to download their PC gaming software again from their Steam Deck. Not to mention that for people with horribly jerky internet connections, the game transfer choice should be speedier.

According to Engadget, this new Steam Deck ability changes everything if a gamer’s internet connection is too slow or has a limited amount of bandwidth. Recently, Valve added a new feature to Steam Deck that let players share games across their local networks.

They can transfer a file from their Desktop to their portable gaming system without accessing the internet thanks to it. According to the gaming company, “Local Network Game Transfers are great for Steam Deck owners, multi-user Steam households, dorms, LAN parties, etc.”

You must first enable Steam’s beta on your PC’s Steam client and Deck in order to access the feature. Choose the game you want to add to your Deck from there, and Steam will check every PC connected to your network to see if it already has the game.

Steam will start the game transfer procedure if it discovers one. It’s important to note that this feature works with computers connected to the same network, thus you are free to move installed Steam games from any other computers in your home to your PC. On its help page, Steam provides more information about how everything functions.

It also states that it will download the remaining portions of the game from its servers in the event that the devices lose connectivity during the transfer process “or no more content is available.” Also, users can change the parameters that control which Desktops your Steam Deck may download from.

Users can only transfer games from the devices they’ve connected into Steam, therefore Steam by default has it set to “Only my own devices.” But, users may change this setting to “Only my friends” or “Any user” if they wish to download games from a friend’s or relative’s Computer. Unfortunately, Steam does not yet enable game transfers coming from PCs using Big Picture mode or the Steam Deck.

The Valve Corporation created the Steam Deck, a portable gaming device. It which debuts on February 25, 2022, is a device that functions similarly to the Nintendo Switch and may be played handheld or when hooked up to a monitor.

It is an x86-64-v3 device that runs SteamOS and has built-in gaming inputs for playing the entire Steam library, supporting Windows PC games using the Linux-based Proton portability layer. The system is an open framework that allows users to install suitable non-Steam software, including operating systems, games, and applications.

Twitter

Why suddenly are Twitter feeds flooded with Elon Musk’s tweets?

Since Elon Musk acquired the social media platform in October, users of Twitter have been paying closer attention to him. It seems like some people can only see Musk on Twitter right now.

Some Twitter users discovered on Monday that, with the exception of the occasional promotional message, their “For You” feeds on the social media platform were stuffed with tweets and responses from the tech mogul, some of which were several days old.

People complained that recent tweets from accounts that don’t follow Musk were flooding their feeds. In a tweet sent out early on Tuesday, Musk appeared to recognize the problem, writing: “Please stay tuned while we make adjustments to the uh .… ‘algorithm’.”

Musk tweeted on Sunday that he had worked hard all day long at Twitter headquarters with the technical team to fix two problems. First off, up to 95% of his tweets were not delivered at all since the “Fanout service” for the “Following” feed was overloaded when he tweeted. Several users’ queued tweets were also ruined by this problem.

Second, the Recommendation method used an absolute block count rather than a percentage block count, which resulted in the deletion of accounts with a large number of followers even when blocks represented only 0.1% of followers and made it “simple” to bot spam profiles with blocks.

This change comes in response to Musk’s criticism that his tweets were not getting enough views, which led him to temporarily make his account private and even sack an engineer because of it. It appears that a number of right-wing profiles that Musk engages with also saw a decrease in their reach as a result of some algorithmic modifications made by Twitter.

The oddity occurs less than a week after users of the social network reported a number of widespread issues affecting their use of the platform on February 8. Users lost access to direct messages, received error messages stating they were “over the daily limit for sending tweets,” and had to schedule tweets before posting them.

The same day, Twitter made the announcement that it will begin charging $100 each month for a “basic tier” to utilize its API, which programmers and researchers use to examine public tweets.

On February 10, Twitter also made it possible for US Twitter Blue members to send tweets with 4,000 characters instead of the standard 280.

Many who use the network have taken offense at Musk’s decision to charge for services that are generally free, particularly because the modifications are made quickly and without much notice. In an attempt to give users the coveted blue checkmark, Twitter launched an upgraded verification system last year, but it failed.

Kyle Vogt

From Engineer to Entrepreneur: The Rise of Kyle Vogt

Kyle Vogt is an American engineer, businessman, executive in technology, and pioneer in robotics.

About Kyle Vogt and Cruise

Vogt established Cruise Automation in 2013, and he presently holds the positions of president, CTO, and CEO of the company. Since being acquired by General Motors in May 2016, Cruise has operated as a stand-alone division of the automaker and develops self-driving car technology.

Initially, Cruise concentrated on creating direct-to-consumer kits to equip cars with rudimentary self-driving features. In 2015, Cruise modified its approach and started developing software for fully autonomous vehicles.

The brand’s ideology exhorts drivers to participate in shared ownership rather than private ownership in order to lessen the harm done to the environment, the frequency of accidents, and the traffic in major cities.

Cruise has been working on creating hardware and software to create completely autonomous vehicles utilizing an adapted Chevy Bolt EV since joining General Motors. Cruise announced last year that it would offer a free autonomous robotaxi service to the general public in San Francisco.

This accomplishment enabled SoftBank Vision Fund to spend $1.35 billion. Once Cruise was prepared for commercial deployment, SoftBank had already agreed to contribute an extra $1.35 billion in addition to its previous $900 million investment.

Early Life

Vogt attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as an undergraduate student to study electrical engineering and computer science. Vogt took part in the 2004 DARPA Grand Challenge there, which several influential figures in the field of autonomous vehicles have credited with catalyzing the development of technology essential to self-driving automobiles.

Vogt participated in two seasons of BattleBots and worked as an intern at Roomba while he was still attending MIT. During his junior year, Vogt dropped out of MIT to join the group that would later find Justin.tv and Twitch.

Success Story

Vogt joined the founding teams of Socialcam and Twitch in 2011; both companies were later acquired, Twitch by Amazon for $970 million and Socialcam for $60 million. Vogt switched to autonomous vehicles after leaving Twitch and co-founded Cruise Automation as President and CTO in 2013.

Early on, the business took part in Y Combinator, a startup boot camp that trains and supports aspiring business owners. Cruise was Y Combinator’s first venture into the auto sector; they hadn’t previously worked on automobiles. However, the partners were familiar with Vogt.

The RP-1 iteration of Cruise technology-enhanced human driving by providing an autonomous capability that was provided for the Audi A4 or S4. The $10,000 kit was designed with the final goal of retrofitting all vehicles with a highway autopilot system.

Ultimately, Cruise came to the conclusion that mastering city driving posed the bigger obstacle. The company made the decision to forgo the RP-1 in January 2014 in favor of employing the Nissan Leaf to create a fully driverless vehicle. In 2016, General Motors reportedly paid more than $1 billion to acquire Cruise.

After former Cruise CEO Dan Ammann departed the company in 2021, Vogt took over as CEO in an acting capacity until he was officially named in 2022, keeping his positions as CTO and President.

iPhone 15

iPhone 15 and 15 Plus to get redesigned camera. What to expect?

Even though it’s only the middle of February, analysts already have a fair sense of what to anticipate from Apple’s upcoming iPhone 15 series.

Numerous leaks hinted at the updated features and look of the new iPhone series.

In light of prior speculations regarding the iPhone 15’s improved camera, the most current rumour focuses on an anticipated design update for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus.

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will reportedly include a new camera bump, according to a leak. It can seem like a small design aspect that users don’t really care about right now. However, the reason that’s fascinating is related to the lower iPhone models’ cameras.

The 48-megapixel sensor that Apple debuted with the iPhone 14 Pros earlier this year should be carried over to both the base device and the 15 Plus.

In recent years, as it updated the sensors, Apple gradually grew the iPhone’s camera bump.

Sensor-shift optical image stabilisation (OIS) technology was introduced with the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Then, Apple added that primary camera to every iPhone 13 device in addition to a new camera setup for the non-Pro variants.

Further with the debut of Apple’s first 48-megapixel sensor in a phone, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max received an even larger camera module. That sensor, according to Apple, is 65% bigger than the one on the iPhone 13 Pro.

Although not identical, the sensors in the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are comparable to those in the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. Compared to the iPhone 13, the iPhone 14’s bulge is a little bigger. The iPhone 13 Pro also has a third zoom lens, however, this model is smaller.

Higher light is captured by a bigger sensor, which also has more megapixels. However, it also occupies more room in the back. The camera bump’s size is increasing as a result. With such a background, it’s simple to see why the rumour that the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus would feature a larger camera bump is so enticing.

The two phones are rumoured to include 48-megapixel primary sensors, the same as those found in the iPhone 14 Pros. That suggests that the rear camera module will need to grow, even if it only has room for two lenses. Reminder: Telephoto zoom lenses won’t be available on future non-Pro phones.

On Twitter, the leaker @ShrimpApplePro summarised the rumoured specifications for the iPhone 15 series and teased the larger camera bump for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. The 48-megapixel sensor for both the non-Pro and Pro models of the iPhone 15 is mentioned in the specifications he cited.

RGB lighting

What is the new RGB lighting feature in Windows 11?

Microsoft is attempting to make Windows 11 natively support RGB PC gaming devices. PC gamers will be able to configure gadgets with RGB lighting using the Windows lighting interface without needing to install any additional software.

According to reports, Windows 11’s most recent Insider Build will provide direct system management of RGB lighting. The majority of Windows gaming laptops and PCs have RGB lighting as an accessory to improve the gaming experience.

Most businesses, like Dell, HP, Asus, and Lenovo, provide consumers with specialised apps that let them manage these colours or the aesthetics they produce.

However, Windows 11’s settings do not have a native control or programme for these RGB lights. The light control function is reportedly being developed by Microsoft right now to eliminate the requirement for third-party apps.

The most recent public test releases of Windows 11 have evidence of early work incorporating this new lighting experience, according to Twitter user Albacore.

The Windows 11 settings interface contains options for adjusting the lighting effects, brightness, speed, and colours. Even better, there is a capability that will match users’ accessories to the accent colour of Windows.

Users of Windows 11 wouldn’t need to download apps from Razer, Corsair, Logitech, and other companies in order to receive the very minimum capability for modifying RGB effects thanks to Microsoft’s own native lighting controls.

Although Microsoft hasn’t yet made an official announcement on lighting features of Windows 11, the company is currently working on a variety of test features that are anticipated to be included in a major upgrade to Windows 11 sometime this year.

When it comes to Windows as a gaming platform for personal computers, Microsoft’s strategy is all over the place. Controlling RGB lighting was obviously going to become a part of Windows, but with Windows 10 and now Windows 11, the merging of the Xbox application and PC Game Pass has seen a new emphasis on Windows as a centre for gaming.

A built-in screen recorder has finally been integrated into Windows 11 with the Snipping Tool, according to a recent announcement from the company. Support for multiple tabs in Notepad has also begun to undergo testing. In Windows 11 Task Manager, Redmond is also experimenting with live kernel memory dumps, which would be very helpful in identifying bugs and performance problems.

In the meantime, on February 14, Microsoft permanently disabled Internet Explorer from the Windows 10 operating system. Users are now routed to Microsoft Edge when they click the Internet Explorer button on a Windows 10 PC.
