Huawei Usurps Samsung to Become Biggest Smartphone Seller of the Last Quarter

The year 2020 has brought several firsts, partly due to COVID-19, and the rest due to the lockdown it caused. No industry or field has been left alone by this global pandemic as the global economy took a tumble. However, certain companies have braved the storm and come out on top. As per a report by analyst enterprise Canalys, Huawei has shipped more mobile phones in a quarter than any other smartphone manufacturer. Here’s a closer look at what this means for the world of technology, and how buyers can benefit from this shift in power.

Huawei On Top

Huawei has climbed to the top of the charts with regards to the number of units shipped within a quarter, beating out the likes of Apple and Samsung. The company has had hopes of usurping Samsung to become the world’s largest smartphone seller for a while. The reports by Canalys prove that is exactly what happened between April and June in 2020. However, the report does not claim that Huawei will hang on to the title for long. The ongoing global pandemic had a big role to play in how these numbers turned out. Therefore, experts believe that things will turn around soon enough, as the world retraces its steps back to normalcy.

Impact of the Global Pandemic

As a result of the COVID-19, Huawei suffered a 5% loss in terms of year-on-year sales, shipping 55.8 million smartphones last quarter. However, within the same period, Samsung suffered a fall of 30%, hitting a low of 53.7 million units. The most integral point here is that over 70% of Huawei’s sales come from mainland China. The country was somehow able to escape the harrowing effects of the pandemic, leading to it becoming a more viable market. However, Samsung did not have the same fortune, as they were not as big a player as Huawei within China.

Huawei Hoping for Better Days

A Huawei spokesperson stated that the news was very welcome for the company amidst such troubling times. The achievement was also a result of their exceptional resilience, and a harbinger for better times to come. While the company braved unprecedented and unforeseen circumstances, they focused on growing their brand, leading to their claim on the top spot. Analysts at Canalys credit the COVID-19 for Huawei’s resurgence and shoot to the top. Ben Stanton, who serves as a Senior analyst, stated that the company made good use of China’s economic recovery to shoot to first place.

Difficulties Ahead

Things have not been easy for the Chinese manufacturer, though their phones have impressive hardware. Rising political tensions and sanctions on phones have threatened their hold on foreign markets. The recently launched Huawei P40 was regarded to be a remarkable phone by most who reviewed it. The company reached the zenith of its technical prowess, hitting the best hardware specs at an affordable price.

However, President Trump’s trade war against China has borne bad news for the company. America recently put Huawei on its Entity List, meaning most American companies now cannot hold trade discussions and do business with it. As a result, the Chinese manufacturer can no longer ship phones containing Google services or apps. In fact, their phones cannot even hold the quintessential Google Play Store, leading to an almost instantaneous reduction in demand.

Huawei Vs. Samsung

Mirroring Samsung, Huawei to has two separate flagship models, the P, and Mate series. While the P series somewhat resembles Samsung’s S series being more mainstream and simple, the Mate Series takes after Samsung’s Note Series. These phones suit power users and come with a sleuth of super-specific features. However, unlike Samsung, Huawei has made both these series look drastically different. The P40, as a result, has rounded edges and a softer design with an OLED screen and subtle curves. Also, like with the Galaxy S20 U, the P40 offers periscope-telephoto cameras, which are still hard to find in the American market. Therefore, we can see stiff competition between both brands as they try to dominate the smartphone market on a global scale.

However, Samsung says there is no cause to worry, claiming it will bounce back soon enough. In fact, the company posted operating profit rising by 23% despite revenue dropping by over 6%. They say they have recovered from the global economic hit faster than imagined, and that sales will be back to normal soon enough. While Huawei might have to recede its top spot soon enough, its continued strength in the Chinese market will provide some much-needed hope.

A Look at the Specifications of the New OnePlus 8 Smartphone that has Excited Fans Around the World

OnePlus is a leading smartphone manufacturer in India, with a loyal fan base. The smartphone maker has done well for itself in India, thanks to affordable handsets which boast high-end capabilities. Most of their phones are highly anticipated by the Indian audience, as they always seem to shake things up when it comes to launches. Recently, Roland Quandt, who is a famous industry insider working for WinFuture, released official specifications relating to the OnePlus 8. The OnePlus 8 will be the newest flagship from the highly successful Shenzhen-based brand. Here’s a look at everything you need to know about the latest specifications, and why it has made smartphone enthusiasts excited.

Launch Dates and Specifications

The leaked specifications reveal that the new flagship might come with an OLED screen, which is 6.55 inches big. The hyperboloid screen will support FHD+ resolution and can process images at 90Hz refresh rate. The phone is also expected to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G chipset, which will be available in two different memory categories: 8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB. The OnePlus 8 will run on an LPDDR4X RAM and is not expected to have functionalities such as wireless charging and IP rating. The phone will also have a 16MP front camera and a back camera which comes with a triple camera setup, supporting a 48MP primary camera. The OnePlus 8 will be powered by a 4300mAh battery, which luckily for the fans, supports 30W flash charge.

Also, as per the report, the phone will most likely be launched mid-April, and the company will announce the exact launch date by the end of this week. The phone will also be available in three different colour schemes, Onyx Black, Interstellar Glow and Glacial Green.

Visual Display

The leak also came with individual renderings of the expected launches, and the new colours make for an impressive visual display. The most talked about in the new array of colours is undoubtedly the purplish- Interstellar Glow, which honestly looks out of this world. Fans from around the world were quick in heaping praises on the new launches’ look, some even stating that the phone seems ethereal. However, no official report has been released which states whether both the OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8, will have the same colour palette.

Also, reports state that the OnePlus 8 Pro might have a 120Hz refresh rate, making for more in-depth and vibrant images. These reports also indicate that the new flagship’s pro version will have a larger screen size, with several experts touting it to as high as 6.78 inches. The Pro is also expected to run on an LPDDR5 RAM, and support a quadruple-camera setup. Furthermore, it will have an IP68 rating, which makes it both water and dust resistant. Also, the phone will run on a 4,510mAh battery, which to supports 30W wireless charging. Furthermore, the phone will also support reverse wireless charging for up to 3 Watts. Both phones will most likely run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 5G chip.

Both WinFuture and Ishan Agarwal have released these new colour variations and specs this morning. As no further updates have come from OnePlus themselves, these new renderings are the closest we will get to see what the new launches will look like. Furthermore, the company has not yet confirmed a release date or pricing for both these flagship phones. Much talked about has been the never-before-seen option of colour called the Interstellar Glow. This new shade is expected to shift its look depending on ambient light and surrounding natural light. Fans have begun to compare this new feature to Samsung’s Aura Glow functionality, which first came out through the Note 10. This unique shade will have the ability to shift between purple, red and orange hues with a matte finish. However, reports have also come out stating that this look might not be available on the OnePlus 8 Pro, though. The Onyx Black shade looks very glossy, whereas Glacial green appears to have a more matte finish. With more reports being expected to come in by April 15th, fans around the world are waiting for confirmation regarding their dream smartphone.

OnePlus 7T Pro

The OnePlus 7 Pro Gets Small Updates with New One Plus 7T Pro

OnePlus is one of the brands that have got to a top position among its rivals in a very small period. And with time, the company has been becoming more and more popular and promising with its products. This time, the company has launched its another premium product, i.e. OnePlus 7T Pro.

Early this year, the company had launched the OnePlus 7 Pro smartphone, and surprisingly, within a few months of its launch, OnePlus came up with another version of the same series, i.e. One Plus 7 Pro. And now after a month, it has released the new OnePlus 7T Pro. The 7T Pro is on the higher end with a price of £699 and can be called the improved version of the 7 Pro and 7T.

Since in one year there has been the launch of two similar smartphones from the same series, for the company too, it was difficult to get new features. This implies that the smartphone though has got a few improvements, but it won’t be able to impress the public at the level 7 Pro did. Maybe, this is the reason that OnePlus is releasing the smartphone only in the European and the Asian market.

With most of the similarities, the smartphone has got improved features in terms of the camera, battery as well as the processor. With a similar super-smooth 90Hz refresh rate the new 7T Pro has got an even more awesome OLED screen.

Though the 7 Pro has been declared the fastest Android smartphone, the new 7T Pro has got the latest Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, making it even faster at the performance. Along with the latest OxygenOS-version of Android 10 incorporated to it and the faster performance, makes the smartphone most suitable for the gaming people.

Unlike its predecessor, for now, the company has only revealed a single colour in the smartphone, i.e. a stunning ‘Haze Blue’. With the launch of another series of the 7T Pro smartphone. i.e. McLaren Edition, the company has also introduced an orange colour in it.

The 7T Pro has got a similar size and weight as of the 7 Pro smartphone, and there have been no changes to the 16-megapixel pop-up selfie camera and the in-display fingerprint sensor as well. With buttons and ports, design-wise too, the two smartphones are completely identical.

Where the new 7T Pro renders support for 8GB RAM, the McLaren edition smartphone has got a whopping 12GB RAM, which is more than enough. There has been an improvement in the battery as well, as the new OnePlus 7T Pro comes with a 4085mAh battery along with a faster charging rate. So within 20-25 minutes, you will get a 100% charging, and that will run a whole day despite extensive usage.

Despite the company has invested a lot on the new OnePlus 7T Pro, it is just a refresh to the 7 Pro and is more expensive. So it won’t be a good buy unless you want faster charging or the smartphone for gaming.

Google Pixel 4

Google to Reveal the New Pixel 4 on the ‘Made by Google’ Event on October 15

This might be the season of new smartphone launches, as we just got introduced to the Apple iPhone 11 last week, and have got to know about the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro through a few leaks. And now, Google is also going to reveal its new Pixel 4 smartphones on the 15th of next month. The company is hosting a hardware event on 15th October in New York, where it will be providing more details on the upcoming Pixel 4, along with its other premium products.

Though the company has already talked much about its new flagship smartphone and even posted a few pictures of the same through various means like tweets, there is a lot under the wraps yet. The company has already sent invites for the event to the media persons, that reads “a few new things Made by Google”. Google uses the ‘Made by Google’ tagline to represent its in-house products. So even if the invite does not say much about the Pixel 4, it is quite obvious to expect more details on the Pixel 4.

According to earlier revealed details, the new smartphone is going to have an updated face recognition technology that may also make use of Google’s new Soli radar-based gesture-recognition technology. There will also be a three-camera setup in a square on its back, that mostly looks like the camera cluster on the back of an iPhone 11 Pro. Also, there might be more colours available in Pixel 4, other than black, white and coral, as decoded through the revealed pictures of the same.

In the previous smartphone releases, the company kept a single HD rear camera for all its Pixels. But this time with the main camera, Pixel 4 is having two more cameras. Other than the main camera, most likely, the second camera will be a telephoto lens with high zooming capabilities. The main camera will reportedly have an improved “Night Sight” feature, such that the night pictures will be even brighter. Also, the users can take fast-action pictures with the main camera. And, like the other high-end smartphones with triple cameras, the third camera might be a wide-angle camera.

Along with the Pixel 4 smartphones, the company will also be revealing the Nest and Home smart devices, updated Chrome laptops as well as tablets. Google will also be live-streaming the event on YouTube, starting at 10 am PT.

Though the Pixel cameras have been one of the most top-rated smartphones, in January this year, the company faced a huge fall in the sales. But anyhow, it managed to raise the sales with its Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. So the release of Pixel 4 is quite critical for the company, and it surely had done some great work with it.

New Leaks Gives Out a Lot About the New OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro

The last couple of weeks have been the week of new smartphones and other releases, especially the Apple iPhone 11. Likewise, there are a few more companies that are looking forward to launching their high-end smartphones and other services as well, OnePlus being one at the top of the list. But amid the race of high-end smartphones, the company might be more into providing its users affordable yet feature-rich smartphones.

Though OnePlus is much excited about its upcoming OnePlus TV, before that, the OnePlus fans are up to finding out what the company will be incorporating in the new OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro. There have already been some leaks about its features, and again, we have got new updates confirming the previous leaked features as well as defining new ones.

According to the new leaks, the OnePlus 7T will be a 6.5-inch smartphone, having an Optic AMOLED display and a resolution of 2400×1080 as well as will be full HD+. The smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset. It will render support for 8GB RAM and will offer two variants of the storage capacities, i.e., 128GB and 256GB storage.

The leaks also talk about the camera of the smartphone, that shows that the front camera will remain the 16-megapixel camera, but there will be an upgrade in the rear ones. As the leaks suggest, the main camera will be an 8-megapixel with F1.6 lens, along with a 12-megapixel telephoto camera having a 2x optical zoom as well as another 16-megapixel wide-angle camera. There has also been an upgrade to the battery of the smartphone, as it will be a 3800mAh battery, with a capability of 20 per cent faster charging.

Last year, the company introduced its OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, among which the Pro version of the smartphone was the main highlight of the launch, as it had got better features than the OnePlus 6 series. But for everyone’s surprise, OnePlus 7 did not come with much of the upgrades, maybe this is the reason why the US did not get the OnePlus 7 in markets.

Well reportedly, the same will happen to the 7T Pro this year, as it is a similar version of the 7 Pro and does not have much of upgrades. Instead, the OnePlus 7T is the one that maybe everyone’s interest at this time, with major changes and upgrades. And, like the previous year, this very smartphone will go on sale in the US markets and 7T Pro may not.

Though 7T Pro is similar to 7 Pro from last year, there are still some upgrades in its camera, battery and the processor. Reportedly, the same, like OnePlus 7T, is also equipped with the Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset. Also, it will be having an 8GB RAM and will render support for 256GB secondary memory. It will have a similar set of cameras as of the OnePlus 7T, and the battery will be a 4085mAh with Warp Charge 30T.

According to the rumours, both the smartphones are powered by the OnePlus’s home-production OS, i.e. Android 10 based OxygenOS.

Though there has been no confirmation from the company on any of these rumours, these look quite legitimate, if we closely look at the company’s past launches. For now, we just need to wait for the official paper to come out from the company side to completely believe in the leaks.

Samsung Klaytnphone

Samsung is Launching a Blockchain Smartphone Named KlaytnPhone

Samsung is releasing its foldable smartphone today in its home country, and along with that, the company has come with another announcement that includes a new blockchain-based smartphone. Yes, a post from Wall Streat Journal has revealed that Samsung is working on a new flagship smartphone that will support cryptocurrency and will be called as “KlaytnPhone.”

The company has already got about ten smartphones’ release this year, including the Samsung Galaxy Fold, Galaxy S10s, Galaxy Note 10s, and now, it looks like the company is not stopping on them only. Samsung has chosen the name KlaytnPhone for its blockchain smartphone, which is inspired by a South Korean cryptocurrency built by the subsidiary company, Ground X Corp, of Korean internet company Kakao.

The smartphone actually belongs to the Galaxy Note 10 series and has got most of the features similar to the smartphones in this series. But there will be an inbuilt crypto wallet and support for blockchain included in it. Like the foldable smartphone from Samsung, for the time being, KlaytnPhone will also be available only in South Korea. According to the WSJ, the early buyers will also get a specified amount of cryptocurrency coins, i.e., Klay from Ground X Corp.

Klay is a newly launched cryptocurrency that Kakao released last year in October through its spin-off arm Klaytn. Cryptocurrencies and blockchain have been a topic of discussion for all. And, even being around for the past decade, there have been many questions about the authenticity of these technologies. But most of the big tech companies have always stood in favour of it. So the main purpose of Samsung to develop such a smartphone may be to get people familiar with this very technology and make it more user-friendly.

According to the reports, the prices for the new KlaytnPhone will start at $1000. There have been no comments from the company as yet, and if believed, according to Cointelegraph’s reports, Samsung has already launched a blockchain supporting smartphone in March this year, which is Galaxy S10. The company was also planning to build its own cryptocurrency and has invested $2.9 million into the French cryptocurrency company Ledger.
