According to Microsoft, Outlook Lite caters to the communication requirements of people in developing markets by providing SMS as well as assistance for Indian spoken languages. With services such as voice typing, transcription, and support for local languages, users may create and review emails in their favourite language with ease. Outlook Lite allows users to dictate emails in Hindi, compose emails in Tamil and then have them instantly translated to English, or view emails in Gujarati.

The software is now compatible with Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Marathi, as well as Gujarati, further languages may be added later.

By classifying messages such as transactions, advertisements, and interpersonal connections, the application also makes SMS texting simpler. Its simplified inbox makes it easier for customers to remember appointments, make travel reservations, pay bills and reserve fuel.

Users may quickly navigate between categories and read pertinent messages in one location.

This Function Comes With Functionalities Like Reminders, Trip & Gas Bookings And Many More

Additionally, this function will notify customers of upcoming appointments, reservations for trips, bills, and petrol, all of which often go overlooked in the deluge of information.

According to Rajiv Kumar, Managing Director, Microsoft India Development Centre, Outlook Lite attempts to give consumers a more practical and customised approach to remain informed and complete tasks.

Outlook Lite will eventually enable users to translate SMS messages into various languages, making it simple to comprehend messages in one language and move between them. Users who connect with people from various locations or communicate in numerous languages may find this function especially useful.

Rajiv Kumar, Managing Director of Microsoft India Development Centre and Corporate Vice President of Microsoft’s Experiences and Devices, India Group, said “The evolution of Outlook Lite embodies our dedication to fostering inclusive digital experiences tailored for diverse communities in India. Hotmail : One of the First Viral Hit on the Internet

Creating
an email id is no herculean task for us today. But, there was a time,
when the world was a different place, and one could only access the
inbox through only one’s personal computer. How tedious would that
have been! Today, we are accustomed to so much luxury and
technological freedom that we can access our emails from any system
and from anywhere in the world. All thanks to Sabeer Bhatia and Jack
Smith, the founders of the one and only Hotmail!

Ever since its launch in 1996, the concept has been accepted with open hands by the public, as it was able to satisfy one of the major needs of the common man. Hotmail is considered as one of the very first of the webmail services, which later, went on to be absorbed by Microsoft. Hotmail is now most popularly known as Outlook.com, as it has been revamped and launched by Microsoft again in 2017.

It all started with a normal conversation between two colleagues at the Apple office of San Francisco. Sabeer Bhatia was getting tired of the mundane tasks and routine work that he had to do at Apple. It was at the same time when their manager left the firm to work for a startup, named Power Systems in Silicon Valley. Both Sabeer and Jack followed him, and soon, joined the startup.

It
was during this phase of their journey that Bhatia created a
browser-based email. This million-dollar idea changed the course of
things on the internet and was able to create a wave of changes in
how people accessed their mails. The inception of the idea was when
Bhatia found it difficult to send emails to his colleagues because of
the firewall. This posed as a major hindrance for a large group of
office going individuals and other technology users of the mid to
late ’90s.

Sabeer
was so confident of his idea that he asked Jack Smith to leave his
job and start working with him full time. They soon pitched the idea
to Venture Capitalists and asked them for 3 million dollars to fully
develop the vision. After a lot of negotiations and bargaining, a
total of 30,000 dollars they agreed upon. The venture capitalists
asked for a 30% share of the profit, but the duo only agreed for 15%
of the total profit or shares of their firm.

Within
six months, Bhatia was able to launch the product. The product was
such a huge success which even the founders had not anticipated. They
received 100 thousand subscribers within the first week of the
launch. The momentum was so high, such that the number of new
registrations went up to a thousand users per day. It was one of the
biggest entrepreneurial successes that the world had ever seen,
making a deep mark in the digital realm.

Even
then, they were asked to add more impressions, clickthroughs, and
other added displays. All of the latest additions gave the startup
more than one million dollars per month. Even this huge amount of
money was not enough to sustain the functioning properly. It was
during this time when rocket Mail (later came to be known as Yahoo)
partnered with the very own Hotmail. This partnership was not very
successful, and the two of them parted their ways very soon.

There
were many such developments in the field, created lots of
innovations, mergings and split-ups. One of the most remarkable of
the acquisitions worth mentioning was that of Hotmail by Microsoft.
The acquisition was for around 400 Million USD, making Sabeer Bhatia
one of the most successful entrepreneurs of the decade.

With over 65 million subscribers and counting, Hotmail can be considered as one of the most viral and highly accepted concepts ever launched. Now known as Outlook.com, Hotmail succeeded in eliminating one of the most frustrating issues faced by the internet users of the ’90s. This is the reason why there is still a large community of people who still have not converted to outlook.com from Hotmail.com. The version of MSN Hotmail, which was the name given immediately after the acquisition by Microsoft, was also a hit. Even then, the tidal wave that Hotmail created among the people is still very much remarkable.

Slack Working with Microsoft to Integrate Office 365 Enterprise Tools to it

Slack has been working really hard to gain more client base for its workplace messenger, and currently is serving more than 10 million daily active users. For that same matter, despite the rivalry between the two companies, Slack has joined its hands with Microsoft, to bring more enterprise productivity tools to it.

The company is working with Microsoft OneDrive and Outlook to get integrations to it, which it has been doing with other services too. Previously, it integrated the Azure Active Directory to it, and also, bought Astro to its messaging platform.

Now with Microsoft 365, Slack will have integrations like Outlook Calendar Slack app, a new option in Outlook that enables the users to directly send messages to Slack, a new option in Slack for attaching files from Microsoft’s OneDrive storage, and the ability to preview Office files including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, directly in Slack.

“We want to break down walls that might otherwise exist between apps that should work together.” said Andy Pflaum, Slack’s director of product management for interoperability.

The calendar app integration in Slack will help the Outlook users to see and schedule events, directly on Slack without leaving it. Also, the users will get the events notifications and invite to new events, directly on Slack, and the users can respond to those notifications and invites from there only. The calendar will also update the user status depending upon the availability. This integration will also provide reminders to its users to join the WebEx, Skype for Business, or Zoom video calls.

For the Outlook users, the mail integration will allow them to send emails to the Slack Channel, attach files and send direct message alongside adding a note. The platform already has the options to attach files from Google Drive and Dropbox, and now, the users will have the option to get the attachments from Microsoft’s One Drive. The option will reflect under the import files menu in Slack.

Though the two companies are in the same race of competition, and even Microsoft had mentioned Slack’s name in the list of its rivals, in its annual 10-K report, the two companies know how to gain profits even from competitions.
