Microsoft Introduces Windows 365, a Web-Streamed Virtual Desktop Service for Hybrid Work.

Windows 365 has recently promised to offer a new way to access a full-fledged Windows operating system from anywhere you want. You can access the OS from a desktop, laptop, or even a mobile phone. Microsoft introduced Windows 365 to the market at a recent partner-focused online conference Inspire 2021 on Wednesday. This new debut brings the theory of a cloud PC to life. Windows 365 is Microsoft’s latest product to enable a suitable remote working environment which has become the new norm lately because of the coronavirus pandemic last year. This operating system is manufactured to provide a surreal computing experience through a native app or Web browser on any device which has an active Internet connection.

The Availability of Windows 365

Microsoft has stated that Windows 365 will be made available to any organization- small or big from August 2. Anyone can access this operating system from any device possible which includes a Mac, iPad, Linux, or even an Android phone. Windows will have 2 cloud PC configurations- Windows 365 Business and Windows 365 Enterprise. Any announcement related to the pricing has not been announced yet.

Features of Windows 365

With the introduction of Windows 365 to the public, Microsoft aims to provide an experience of any older operating system they released but with the extra benefit of accessing it from any device. It will offer the same looks, feels, and security as a traditional Windows PC. It will allow users full access to Windows 10 or 11(when available) directly from an application or Web browser. Users will also have the benefit of accessing their apps, tools, information, and settings from the PC cloud.

Accessibility

With a special thanks to the Microsoft Cloud integration, users will now be able to access Windows 365 while they switch between multiple devices. It does not matter what device you are using; you will get the same experience. This service will run on the cloud and hence, will not display any distinction even when you shift from a top-class device to a more basic device, for instance, an Android phone.
Even though Microsoft already came out with Azure Virtual Desktop to introduce Windows through the cloud to business clients, Windows will offer a whole new way to implement digitalization without tedious IT support. If a corporation has its own IT admins, Microsoft stated that the admins could manage and deploy cloud PCs based on Microsoft Windows by using tools similar to the ones they use to manage physical PCs.

“Windows 365 is really going to make a huge difference for organizations that wanted to try virtualization for various reasons but could not — maybe it was too costly, too complex or they didn’t have the expertise in house to do it,” said Wangui McKelvey, General Manager of Microsoft 365.

Microsoft also mentioned that this operating system will support any business applications including Microsoft 365, Dynamic 365, and Power Platform, among others. IT teams can also use Microsoft Endpoint Manager to work with Windows in order to manage cloud PCs provided by the corporations. They can apply management and security policies remotely from any device.
Windows 365 also come with the Endpoint Analytics dashboard to provide analytics access to look at the health of the Internet connection across the business network. IT teams can also run diagnostics using Watchdog Service.

Security

Windows 365 is designed to address most of the security challenges using a Zero Trust architecture. It comes with a Multi-Factor Authentication(MFA) for the verification of login or access attempts to the cloud PC using integration with the Microsoft Azure Active Directory. Specific permissions like licensing, Device Management, and Cloud PC Management with certain rules can also be delegated. In addition, for increased security, you can use Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.
Microsoft further argued that all managed Microsoft Windows cloud-based discs were encrypted, all data stored remained encrypted, and all network traffic to and from PCs also encrypted. Windows 365 has been developed prior to the pandemic, with references to initial work begun in 2014. But the outbreak of coronavirus contributed to a wider Cloud testing for Microsoft than previously. The company had also decided to pitch its new service with a Microsoft Office 365 replacement last year by Microsoft.

Qualcomm Smartphone

Qualcomm and Asus Partner to Launch ‘Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders’

After months of speculation, Qualcomm finally launched its first smartphone, the “Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders,” in collaboration with Asus. This phone is literally for Snapdragon Insiders, a community of Snapdragon fans and enthusiasts who are the first to learn about new developments involving Qualcomm’s mobile processors. This new gaming phone is essentially a token of appreciation for the community. The Qualcomm phone boasts impressive specifications such as the Snapdragon 888 chip, 144Hz AMOLED display, and up to 16GB of RAM, earning it the title of a gaming phone.

The Qualcomm Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders is a completely customized phone for people who know exactly what they want from their phone. This indicates the company’s top-tier processor, but it is surprising that Qualcomm did not opt for the Snapdragon 888 Plus processor, which is recently launched. According to Qualcomm, development on this phone began last year, while the Snapdragon 888 Plus was released earlier this year. The Snapdragon 888 Plus is supposed to be slightly better at handling graphics, but that’s about it. There isn’t much of a distinction between the vanilla and Plus variants. Nonetheless, the company has a processor tier higher than what this phone has.

Specifications of the Qualcomm Smartphone

The Qualcomm Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders is a flagship phone that also happens to be the chipmaker’s first phone. Qualcomm has worked with Asus to make this phone a reality. This is due to the fact that Asus is one of the most well-known manufacturers of gaming phones. It’s ROG Phone series is the best-selling gaming phone on the market. It is powered by a Snapdragon 888 chipset with an Adreno 660 GPU. The phone supports both the mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G bands. The gaming phone has a 6.78-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz and a peak brightness of 1,200 nits. There is HDR and HDR10+ support, and the display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. There is 512GB of internal storage and 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM.

Qualcomm has used a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor on the primary camera, as well as a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera, for photography. The AI Zoom feature on Qualcomm’s Spectra 580 image signal processor promises better photos and up to 8K-resolution videos. The phone has a 24-megapixel camera on the front for selfies and video calls. The phone has dual stereo speakers powered by Snapdragon Sound technology, as well as four microphones. The Qualcomm Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders has a 4000mAh battery that can be charged in 52 minutes thanks to Quick Charge 5.0 technology.

Pricing of the Qualcomm Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders

The Qualcomm Snapdragon Insiders Smartphone costs $1,499 (approximately Rs 1,12,200). There is only one model with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The phone will first be available in China, Germany, Japan, Korea, the United States, and the United Kingdom in August. The first wave will be followed by an India release. The India price is currently unavailable. Despite the fact that the phone appears to be exclusive to the Snapdragon Insiders community, it will be available for purchase to the general public. The gaming phone will be available in a single color: Midnight Blue.

Other Features

Qualcomm’s Smartphone comes with a pair of truly wireless earphones with active noise cancellation, dubbed Master & Dynamic Earphones. Master & Dynamic is an audio brand based in New York. In the box, you’ll find a Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 power adapter as well as two USB-C to USB-C braided cables.

Google's Play Store

Google’s Play Store becomes the victim of Antitrust Lawsuit filed by the Multiple States.

It is not new that many nations have targeted big multinational companies like Google and Facebook earlier for their exceptional market power. Google has become the main target of many states this time for the offensive revolt against Big Tech. On 7th July, attorney generals from thirty-six states and the District of Columbia filed an antitrust lawsuit which targets Google’s Play Store. This is the fourth major antitrust lawsuit that the US government officials have charged Goggle with in the past ten months. The US states are targeting Play Store this time which is the power hub of any Android device in order to download applications.

The Antitrust Lawsuit

The complaint launched against Google constitutes 144 pages and it was filed late on Wednesday. All the nations have filed the lawsuit together in a Northern California federal court against Google. Several attacks on a large tech conglomerate like Google will begin to form a stale relationship between the US nations and the company and most of the time common people become the victim of such battles. People are immensely dependent on the services and products provided by Google’s Play Store and any disruption of these services would cause a huge loss for the Android users and more.

Also, the lawsuit filed against Google also comes as a backdrop of proposed laws in Congress curated in a way that will either break up or undermine the massive power of the company (The Indian Express). Though the antitrust lawsuit of yesterday has been filed against Google, the target here is every giant tech company like Google, Apple, Amazon and Facebook that holds unfathomable power in the market. Each of these four companies have built a trillion-dollar market due to the huge popularity of their services and a huge fraction of the population using it.

Reason for Filing Lawsuit

The recent lawsuit resembles the one filed by Epic, mobile game maker voicing against both Google and Apple. Epic raised the concern about the control that Google exerts on the Play Store. It mentioned that Google collects commission for up to 30 percent for digital transactions taking place in these apps that are run on Android and installed by the users. And, these Android users accounts for almost 80 percent of the total smartphone market. Epic has filed against both Apple and Google but the trial with Google is still awaiting.

The commission charged by Google is similar to the terms of Apple but Google also allows its customers to download applications from other sites apart from Play Store. But, Apple users can strictly install apps only from its store and no other outlets. But, the lawsuit filed yesterday specifically mentions that it seems like Google’s android software is an open operating system but in real life it doesn’t allow customers with much choices.

Allegations Against Google’s Play Store

The complaint says that over the years Google has deployed many tactics to create unhealthy competition. Google made sure that it distributes more than 90 percent app on these Android devices which according to the nations is an illegal monopoly. The government officials says that it is hurting the developers of these apps who have less resources to innovate. Sean Reyes, Utah Attorney General has said that Google’s monopoly is creating a havoc in the marketplace as it is harming small businesses and consumers.

In response to all these allegations Google didn’t instantly respond to a request for a lawsuit. But, Google has been targeted by multiple nations in the past one year and it is defending itself confidently in each case. The concerns have grown against the dominant power of its search engine as well as its digital network that generates more than $100 billion revenue for Alphabet Inc. Previously in response to how small businesses were getting affected by 30 percent commission cut, Google reduced it to 15 percent for the first $1 million revenue. But, even after doing so the situation didn’t cool down and several nations are still trying to dilute the power of these four biggest companies.
