With an initial investment of $25,000, Stan Shih Chen Jung and his friends founded Acer in 1976. Multitech International was the company’s name, and they began by designing hand-held electronic games before moving on to distribute semi-conductors that they had imported from developing countries at a lower price.
In 1981, Acer Inc. was formed. ‘Microprofessor’ was their first successful product and provided them with revenue for their future endeavors. It was only a matter of time before the company began manufacturing personal computers, which they sold to companies under their well-known brands.
When it came to selling its products directly, Acer was the first. As a result of investing their profits in R&D, this was only possible. With the help of the Intel 386 processor, it was able to create the world’s first Chinese language computer in 1986!
Acer spun off its manufacturing operations as Wistron Corporation in 2000 to focus on sales and marketing of its core brand. Identifying and implementing marketing strategies that maximized Acer’s existing distribution channels allowed the company to grow globally while simultaneously reducing its workforce. In 2005, Acer had a global workforce of just 7,800 people. 2003’s revenues grew to $4.9 billion, while 2006’s revenues grew to $11.3 billion. Market share in North America has decreased over the past few years, while market shares in Europe have increased. When Acer announced plans to acquire Gateway Inc. for $710 million on August 27, 2007, it was a surprise.
Acer announced in January 2008 that it had acquired a controlling 75 percent stake in Packard Bell. There are four Acer brands in the Acer 4Group – Acer, Gateway, Packard Bell & eMachines. Since each brand has its own set of characteristics, each brand can target different customer needs within the global PC market.

Gaming smartphone Nubia’s Red Magic 6S Pro features a 165Hz refresh rate display. Snapdragon 888+ SoC and up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM power the new smartphone, which is expected to be released later this year. The gaming smartphone is also equipped with an “upgraded multi-dimensional cooling system” with a built-in cooling fan that is more powerful. There is a 5,050mAh battery in the Red Magic 6S Pro, which supports fast charging up to 66W. To keep the smartphone cooler while charging, Red Magic has included a Charge Separation feature.

The Cyborg color option is available for the first two variants. On September 9, the smartphone will go on sale in China for the first time. With a 12-gigabyte RAM and a 128-gigabyte storage option, it costs CNY 3,999 (roughly Rs 45,300). After the 25th of September, the smartphone will be available for purchase in China through open sale.
